Self-Portrait as Open Wound

by D. Moxley

I keep the light on so the dark can see me.

in the mirror, a country I never voted for.

my hands: two animalstrying to leave the same cage politely.

mother said be a closed door.I became a window instead —everything flies through me.everything is seen.

this is not a confession.this is a gardenand I am done apologizing for the weeds.
