A City of Small Disappearances

by Arla Bennett

the bus stop forgot its own bench.the laundromat misplaced a sock of sky.

every morning the city misplaces something small —a key, a dog's name, the echo under the bridge.

we find them later, in other cities, working under assumed names.

I keep a list of what I've lost here.it reads like a map.it reads like a door.
